Wellingborough Diggers

Wellingborough has a long tradition of radicalism and socialism, perhaps best embodied by Gerrard Winstanley and the Wellingborough Diggers in the 17th century - a collection of people who, hungry and oppressed by the rich landowners,
"took land unto themselves in the name of sustaining life, not as a means of power or authority to deprive others."
"...we find that God never gave it to any sort of people, that they should have it all to themselves, and shut out all the rest."

The Wellingborough Diggers Festival is now an established annual community event and has been combined with the annual May Day celebration.
Watch out for our annual Northamptonshire May Day / Diggers festivals!
